On-duty cop dies

A policeman assigned in the Toril Police Precinct died while he was conducting a joint checkpoint with the elements of the Task Force Davao in Barangay Sirawan around 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Based on the records of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), he was identified as PO2 Victor Rivera Tonzo Jr., 38, married an a resident of Iwha Village in Dumoy, Toril District.

According to the report, elements of the Toril police, led by officer-in-charge Insp. Francisco Pana III, were lending help to the Task Force Davao personnel in manning the checkpoint.

Tonzo reportedly complained of a severe headache and requested to be brought to the hospital. But he collapsed at the Malta Medical Center. He died at 6:50 p.m. from cardiac arrest.

The body of the policeman was brought to the hospital morgue for the required autopsy.
