Official’s driver sued for seized firearm

LAW ENFORCERS filed a case against a personal driver of a Zamboanga del Sur board member who was arrested in a checkpoint at Sirawan, Toril for illegal possession of firearm Sunday.

Sued for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, was Louie Mantos Taping, 24, of Purok Bagong Lipunan, Marcos Village, San Pablo, Zamboanga del Sur

Based on the police report, members of the Task Force Davao collared Taping and endorsed him to the Toril Police Station after his arrest at a checkpoint when a firearm without documents was recovered from a vehicle he was driving.

The report said that the gun was found underneath the driver seat of the vehicle whose passenger were Zamboanga del Sur Belman Belotindos Mantos, 48, and other omembers of his family as the official was attending a conference in the city.

Taping has been detained at the Toril Police Precinct as the City Prosecutor’s Office has yet to resolve the case.
