Official says paramilitary member in smuggling faces investigation

THE military will investigate a member of a paramilitary unit who was arrested in Davao del Norte for allegedly smuggling guns.

Lt. Christine Joan Pamplona, 10th Infrantry Division assistant spokesperson, confirmed that Bruno E. Tapia Jr. is a member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit under the 72nd Battalion.

On Tuesday, members of the Davao del Norte Criminal Investigation and Detection unit arrested Bruno and two others in Barangay Ising, Carmen allegedly with six firearms, P1,000 in marked money and two motorcycles.

Arrested with him were Bedencio Galo Jr., 26; and Roy Nadala Sialongo, 42.

Maj. Gen. Eduardo M. Año, commander of the unit, said the arresting team and his unit have started coordinating in pursuing the investigation even as he said his command will not hesitate to punish anyone under it who commits wrongdoings.

“The division does not tolerate any criminal act by our soldiers and we believe in the justice system,”Ano said, adding that his policy is to “weed out the misfits and scalawags in our organization in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.
