OCD XI continues training on disaster preparedness

THE OFFICE of the Civil Defense (OCD) XI yesterday said it’s continually initiating emergency response trainings to enhance the skills of responders.

“We really try to get ready on the preparedness training,” OCD XI head Leoncito Cirunay Sr. told reporters in yesterday’s AFP-PNP press conference held at Royal Mandaya hotel.

“Eighty percent of our activity is concentrated on training disaster responders on tactical level,” he added. “In fact we have programs that our responders should know how to revive a patient while en route to the hospital.”

The agency has assigned a team to oversee operations in cities, municipalities and provinces. It will also supervise the incident command system and disaster preparedness of companies, government agencies and establishments.

By next month, the agency will start conduct training for disaster managers all throughout the region. For now, it’s monitoring areas that are considered as flood- or landslide-prone.

Cirunay also said they have prepared a disaster preparedness program for the Miss Universe and the ASEAN Summit this month.

“We are planning that during trainings, we will invite the media so that you will understand what we do in disaster response operation,” he said.
