Nurse dies in dawn fire

A NURSE of Davao Doctors Hospital died when a fire hit five houses in the residential area of Purok 5, San Nicolas, Fr. Selga Street, Barangay 8-A, Poblacion district yesterday dawn.

Chief Insp. Ramil Macarampat, the commander of San Pedro police precinct, identified the victim as Holden Rainer Gayta, 33, single, the assistance quality director of DDH.

Gayta was sleeping at his rented room at the third floor of the boarding house when the fire broke out around 3:40 a.m. yesterday in the second floor.

The firefighters put the fire under control after an hour.

When the fire officers conducted the clearing operation, they found Gayta trapped in the room.

Rescuers had a hard time in getting Gayta out from his room.

 When Gayta was pulled out from the boarding house, rescuers rushed him to the hospital where he worked. But he was declared dead on arrival at 7:25 a.m.

His body was partially burned.

Macarampat said the house where the fire started was owned by Ruben Macorol Maceren, 50, businessman.

Initial investigation conducted by the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) revealed that the fire started in the second floor of the house, occupied by his daughter Kelzelle Jane Maceren

According to the witnesses, the fire immediately spread to adjacent houses that were also made of light materials.

Four houses were totally burned and one was partially burned.

A defective electric fan plugged in overloaded electrical connection sparked the fire, fire investigators revealed.

  The firefighters declared fired out around 4:43 a.m. of the same day.

The estimated cost of the damage has reached to P600, 000.
