NPA cache discovered in Bunawan

TROOPS of 75th Infantry Battalion discovered a cache containing high-powered firearms, war materials, medical and food supplies of the members of New People’s Army (NPA) at the tri-boundary of sitios Sta. Monica, Kiaksan and San Isidro of Barangay Bunawan Brook, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur at around 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 15.Capt. Rodulfo Cordero, the civil-military operations (CMO) officer of 401st Infantry Brigade, said that the cache belonged to the Guerrilla Front Committee 14 (GFC14), Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC).

On the other hand Lt Col. Jaime Datuin, commanding officer of 75IB confirmed the found items in the site were, one M14 rifle, one AK47, six improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 17 assorted rifle magazines, 159 assorted ammunition of various caliber, one rifle grenade, 315 pieces super dyne explosives, six pieces blasting caps, three handheld radio batteries, 450 meters electrical wire, one Yamada generator set, one Acer multi-media projector, 28 gallons rice, military uniforms, sweatshirts with BHB markings, NPA caps, back packs, medical supplies, dental supplies, various medicines, CPP-NPA books and other propaganda materials.

“I sincerely thank the populace of Bunawan Brook for the information that led to the discovery of the arms cache and other war materials,” Centino said.

“Your security forces need the help of everyone, may it be the local chief executive, local government agencies, media, and especially the populace in order to stop terrorism brought by the NPA. A peaceful community can be achieved with everybody’s help,” He added.

It can be recalled last Feb. 14, 16 and 17, a series of encounters transpired in Barangay Bunawan Brook with a body of an NPA member found and different war materials recovered. Afterwards, the 401st Brigade deployed Community Support teams (CSTs) in the area.

“Aside from surrender of NPA regulars and Militiang Bayan, deployment of Community Support Teams resulted to a number of populace shifting support from NPA terrorists to the government,” Maj. Gen. Ronald Villanueva, commander of 4th Infantry division said.

“These populaces give information on the location of cache containing firearms, war materials and supplies of different Guerrilla Fronts,” Villanueva said.

“Moreover, populace also report presence of NPA terrorist in their area that leads to the encounter with the government troops,” the division commander added.
