Notorious DavSur crime leader killed

A notorious crime gang leader in Davao del Sur was killed by authorities during the implementation of a search warrant in San Francisco Drive, Barangay Tres de Mayo, Digos City on Thursday.

Police Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, the police regional director, identified the suspect as Rene Lumen, leader of the Eng-Eng Gang engaged in drug peddling, robbery/akyat-bahay and gun-running activities.

Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, the spokesperson of Police Regional Office 11, said agents from the Digos City Police Station, the Davao del Sur Provincial Field Unit of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the Provincial Intelligence Branch of the Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office (DSPPO), the Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Regional Intelligence Unit and the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit joined in the operation.

According to the report, the suspect drew a gun and pointed it to the law enforcers who were set to implement a search warrant.

He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by the attending physician of the Davao Sur Provincial Hospital.

Confiscated from the possession of the suspect were a Colt .45 pistol, six live ammunitions, a magazine of caliber .45 pistol and five sachets of alleged shabu, police said.

The confiscated items are now in the custody of Digos City Police Station.

“We are now hunting those in the list of wanted persons and drug personalities,” Morales said.

The police regional director also emphasized that the cooperation and sharing of information among the law enforcement agencies and the active support of the community are among the potent tools in the fight against illegal drugs and other criminalities.
