No identity yet on body parts found at dumpsite

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) yesterday said they are still waiting on the autopsy report to identify the human body parts recovered on Saturday at around 12:30 p.m. in the dumpsite in Barangay New Carmen, Tugbok District.

Sr. Insp. Ma. Theresita Gaspan, spokesperson of DCPO, said samples were sent to the PNP Crime laboratory 11 to determine the identity and gender of the victim.

“We are facing a difficulty in the identification because the recovered body parts were not complete,” she said. “At the same time it was already decomposed, including the face.”

“So for now, they took the DNA sample and the fingerprint. However, the DNA can’t be processed yet since there’s nothing to compare it with so we are waiting on the claimant,” she explained.

The DCPO is investigating the possible link between the incident and the body parts earlier recovered in Buhangin District.

“The investigation is still ongoing and we are looking into all possible theories with this incident to expedite the lead on the identity of the victim,” Gaspan said.

“There might be possibility that the victims are not from Davao city and (their) body was just dumped here so we are tracing that,” she added.

She said they will be conducting an interview with the driver of the truck yesterday.

According to the report from the investigation, based on the statement of the CSU assigned at the landfill, the driver of the dump truck was assigned in Buhangin,” Gaspan explained.

They are also calling on the public who may have information in the incident to coordinate with the police.

A scavenger found the dismembered body parts at the city landfill. The head, two arms and two legs were stuffed into a garbage bag. The body was found by scavenger, Jerry Musa, 43.

Police could not yet immediately distinguish if the victim was male or female as the head was already in the advance state of decomposition. The victim had long hair.

It was the second case reported in the city in just two months.

Last July 30, a garbage collector found the dismembered body parts of a woman inside a garbage bag in front of a pawnshop along the highway of Barangay Cabantian in Buhangin District. Two days later, another set of body parts were found near the Buhangin flyover.
