NM Florendo tops Araw ng Dabaw FIDE Rated Open Chess

NATIONAL Master (NM) Joey Albert Florendo made his presence felt by claiming this year’s top spot of the Araw ng Dabaw FIDE Rated Open chess championships held recently at the Damosa Market Basket.

Florendo, an eighth-seed entry going to this tournament finished with seven points with only scoring a victory next to second place winner Jhonnel Balquin as based on Bucholz points.

Harrison Maamo placed third with 6.5 points followed by top seeded entry NM Rustom Tolentino who settled fourth.

Aglipay Oberio finished at fifth place to complete the top five winners.

Some 43 entries took part in the annual tournament which was part of this year’s Araw ng Dabaw celebration.

National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Region XI director and IA James Infiesto welcomed the participants in grand rites along with the awarding ceremonies.
