New NBI XI head assumes position

A NEW DIRECTOR yesterday assumed the leadership of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Davao region.

No less than NBI Director Atty. Dante Gierran installed Atty. Mario Tonelete as the new regional director in Davao during the turnover ceremony conducted at the regional office in J.P. Laurel Avenue.

Tonelete assumed the post vacated by Atty. Arnold Rosales who was transferred to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) last August following corruption charges.

Tonelete told TIMES that he will focus on the campaign against illegal drug, illegal; gambling, and graft and corruption, aside from their usual task of investigating high profile cases.

“These are the pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte and our NBI Director Atty. Dante Gierran,” Tonelete said. “But this does not mean we have to abandon other cases of equal importance,”

The newly appointed director also said they are improving the processing of clearances as the NBI office will start accepting paper by 7 a.m., one hour early that the previous 8 a.m. opening.

“The (public) can enter the compound even before 6 a.m. if our security is ready,” Tonelete said. “We don’t want that the applicants will fall in line especially when it rains,” he added.

Tonelete said they have arranged their public address system so they can call the applicants by numbers.  Currently, applicants need to transfer from one seat to another while waiting for their turn.

“Transferring one seat to another is a degrading part to our applicants,” he said.

Before assuming the post, Tonelete was the acting regional director of NBI in Bicol (Region V) based in

Legazpi City.

Tonelete took the Davao post from Atty. Exzel Hernandez, who assumed as the acting Davao regional director for over a month after the relief of Rosales who was accused of mulcting an owner of a bar.
