Mugger killed in shootout

A SUSPECTED mugger was killed in a shootout with police officers after he resisted arrest along Feria Street, Barangay Subasta, Calinan District on Sunday night.

Chief Insp. Michael Uyanguren, the commander of Calinan Police Precinct, identified the suspect as Dexter Bardinas Canomo, alias Pogi, a resident of Barangay Subasta.

According to the report, Maria Grace Mutya appeared at the police station around 7:30 p.m. and reported that she was mugged.

Mutya reported that she was walking along Feria Street on her way home when an unidentified man, armed with gun, blocked her way and declared a hold-up.

The suspect took the victim’s cellular phone worth P4,000 and P1,000 cash.

In the rogue’s gallery at the police station, the victim positively pinpointed Canomo as the suspect.

Calinan police operatives then immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation against the suspect.

Intelligence operatives received reports that Canomo was spotted in Centro of the said barangay.

At around 8:40 p.m., the suspect was spotted in Purok 2 where he resided.

When the police officers introduced themselves, the suspect allegedly pulled a pistol from his waist.

He fired towards the police officers twice.

Sensing that their lives were in imminent danger, the police operatives said they were forced to retaliate to neutralize the suspect.

Thereafter, the police officers called Central Base 911 and requested for medical assistance to revive the suspect.

But due to the delay of the medical responders, they were constraint to send the wounded suspect to Isaac Robillo General Hospital, the nearest hospital, in Barangay Calinan Poblacion, also in Calinan District, on board Mobile Patrol No. 94. The suspect, however, was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at 8:55 p.m.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team led by Dr. Nolan Genova recovered a revolver, bearing serial number 759794, containing four live ammunitions and two fired cartridges inside its cylinder.

The team also went to Angel Funeral Homes in Calinan where the cadaver was brought. They found in the possession of the suspect a cigarette pack containing undetermined weight of suspected dried marijuana leaves.
