More good cops

Rouge police officers are exemption to rule – PNP regional director
THE PNP organization has not been remiss of its duty to review its processes from screening, recruitment and trainings to minimize the number of rouge cops in the force.

“The review starting from the police recruitment, the kinds of trainings, uprading of examinations, the neuro-testing, these are the things that are being  undertaken in order to attain, as much as possible, that there will be no longer policemen who will be involved in illegal activities,” regional police director, Chief Supt. Wendy Rosario, said in an interview yesterday.

But he acknowledged that some police officers are embroiled in illegal activities but the PNP as an organization will not tolerate these transgressions.

Rosario directed the Davao City Police Office director Sr. Supt. Vicente Danao Jr. to adopt the necessary actions particularly after another member of the Toril Police Precinct was again implicated in an illegal drug transaction.

“I can see that we need to put special attention on them and we are taking that into account,”he said.

Meanwhile, Danao said the erring cop, a Police Officer 1 assigned at the Toril Police Precinct, is now under restrictive custody in the holding center of the Davao City Police Office in Camp Leonor Domingo along San Pedro Street.

“He really admitted that the suspect is his friend. Definitely, he will face an administrative and criminal case,” Danao added.

The case stemmed from an aborted drug buy-bust when the police officer tipped off the target on Monday night.

Although Danao identified the suspect to the TIMES, his identity is withheld for the time being pending the results of the  investigation, to protect his family.

The report reaching the Davao City Police Office said that Chief. Insp. Hamlet Lerios immediately ordered his men to turn over their mobile phones and he found the exchange in text messages between the suspect and the alleged drug pusher

“We have been receiving reports from Isumbong Kang CD Hotline about his alleged involvement in illegal activities,” Danao said.

According to the Danao, they are also monitoring seven police officers in different precincts who are tagged as protecting drug pushers. Previously, Danao said that one police officer who was under surveillance already retired early, perhaps  sensing that he’s about to be caught.
