Military, police on lookout for freed NDFP consultants

THE POLICE and Military yesterday said they haven’t received any feelers of surrender yet from some of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines consultants released at the height of the peace talks.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed a proclamation labeling the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)- New People’s Army (NPA) as terrorist group.

Speaking on yesterday’s AFP-PNP press conference held at Royal Mandaya hotel, Chief Insp. Andrea Dela Cerna, spokesperson of Police Regional Office (PRO) XI, said they are still asking for the list of the freed NDFP consultants.

“If we already (obtained)the list and there is already an instruction, then we will already arrest them if they will be in our areas of responsibility” Dela Cerna said.

Accordingly, there are four to five consultants in the region who were temporarily released. “The officers and agencies in Compostela Valley will coordinate if in case they are willing to surrender,” she added.

“For now. we have no idea of their whereabouts but we will try to coordinate with the agencies to get their names because not all of them are using their real names,” she further said.

Col. Nolasco Mempin, Task Force Davao commander, said they are waiting for guidance from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) but based on the verbal order, they are now on the lookout for the NDFP consultants.

“For the CPP-NPA (member) that might enter the city, then we can assist the DCPO in implementing the warrant of arrest for some of the personalities of the NPA,” Mempin said.

On the other hand, Capt. Jerry Lamosao, spokesperson of 10th Infantry Division, said they support Proclamation No. 360 declaring the CPP-NPA as terrorist group.

“Before the proclamation, all units have already tightened the security operations especially on our borders,” Lamosao said.

“With the proclamation also, we have more deployment of troops in the community support programs in the barangays, and we have already received reports that there are NPA attacks being conducted,” he added.

The 10th ID is also calling the attention of the public to continue supporting the programs of the government.
