Matobato wanted anew

JUDGE Carmelita Sarno-Davino of the Regional Trial Court Branch 19 issued on Monday a warrant for the arrest of self-confessed hitman Edgar Matobato in connection to a frustrated murder case filed by a retired adjudicator of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

“You are hereby commanded to arrest Edgar Matobato, who is said to be found at Sagrada Pamilia, Sasa, Davao City and who stands charged before me with the crime of Frustrated Murder and to bring him forthwith before me as soon as possible to be dealt with according to law,” the arrest warrant read.

The judge placed Matobato’s bail at P200,000.

Complainant Abeto Salcedo Jr., claimed Matobato was one of the gunmen who ambushed him on Oct. 23, 2014 at the junction of Bonifacio Street and Bago in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

Salcedo identified Matobato after seeing him on national TV testifying before a Senate hearing on the Davao Death Squad (DDS) on Sept. 15.

But Matobato, during the Senate hearing on Sept. 22 denied Salcedo’s claim saying he was already under the Witness Protection Program (WPP) at the time the alleged ambush happened.

During the Senate investigation, Matobato tagged then Mayor now President Rodrigo Duterte to be the brain behind the DDS operation.

Matobato legal counsel Josue Jude Sabio, in a phone, interview said the Court proceeded with the issuance of arrest warrant despite he has pending motions.

Matobato was charged after Digos City Prosecutor Christopher Abarilla found probable cause to indict him on Jan. 20.
