Matobato asks reconsideration in ex DAR lawyer ambush case

THE CAMP of Edgar Matobato yesterday filed a motion asking the government prosecutor in Digos City, Davao del Sur to reconsider its decision charging the self-confessed hitman for the 2014 alleged ambush of an agrarian reform official.

Matobato, through his legal counsel Jude Sabio, asked the Office of the City Prosecutor to hold the filing of the frustrated murder charge before the court.

The government prosecutor, in a resolution released on Jan. 5, recommended the filing of the case against Matobato.

Sabio, in an interview, said the resolution is biased.

He said they filed the motion for reconsideration after learning that a resolution was released without resolving his motion to extend the submission of counter affidavit.

The case stemmed from the complaint filed by Atty. Abeto Salcedo Jr., a former adjudicator of the Department of Agrarian Reform, last Sept. 23.

Salcedo claimed he was ambushed on Oct, 23, 2014 along Bonifacio Street in Aplaya, Digos City.

But Matobato, during the Senate hearing last Sept. 22, denied Salcedo’s claim. He claimed he was already under the Witness Protection Program on that particular day.
