Kadayawan hoopfest tips off August 8 at DCRC

Two promising squads from the UAAP, a multi-titled team from Cebu and a shortly-joined collegiate local selection will spice up this year’s edition of the Kadayawan Festival Invitational basketball tournament which tips off this April 8 to 12 at the Davao City Recreation Center (Almendras gym).

The National University Bulldogs and the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers from the UAAP and the University of Cebu Webmasters are off to tangle with local bets known as the Go-Duterte Davao selection on the scheduled five-day tournament sanctioned by the SBP-XI as part of the annual Kadayawan festivities.

The Go-Duterte Davao selection will be backed by two imports having Leandry Sancho and Shooster Olago with its roster having Brian Mago, Glen Manlangit, James Linares, Mahloney Tarranza, Conrad Fernando, Ivan San Diego, Dale Soriano, James Doblado, Joshua Aguilon, Bon Bulac, Miguel Pacheco, Francis Espiritu and De La Salle University’s Francis Escandor.

Former De La Salle University assistant coach Miguel Solitaria will call the shots for the Go-Duterte Davao selection with team manager Ronnel Leuterio. With less than three months in preparation for this tournament, the young squad conquered recently the Surigao Open basketball championships beating the University of Visayas Lancers in the finals.

Veteran mentor Raul Alcoseba will coach the UC Webmasters while the UST Growling Tigers will be under newly-acquired coach and former De La Salle University mentor Aldin Ayo. The NU Bulldogs will be handled by Jamike Jarin.

Presented by Presidential Adviser on Sports and SBP-XI director Glen Escandor, the tournament which allots cash prizes and trophies for the winners is in coordination with the City Sports Development Division Office.

The SBP-XI’s Atty. Francis Calatrava will be this year’s tournament commissioner with the games reeling off at 5:15 p.m.
