Joint traffic operation yield 85 vehicles, 49 motorbikes  

EIGHTY-FIVE vehicles and 49 motorcycles were impounded by the Davao City Police Office during the random inspection in Toril area last Friday.

City police director, Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum, told TIMES that the operation started around 1 p.m. and ended around 6:30 p.m. in ten areas in Toril area.

The operation was conducted by joint forces of the Davao City Police Office, Task Force Davao, Public  Safety and Security Command  Center, Highway Patrol Group 1, Land Transportation XI, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board XI and City Transport and Traffic Management Office and volunteer police auxiliary.

Tagum said the operation was intended to clear the city of carnapped/undocumented vehicles.

The operation  resulted in the impounding of four vans, one sedan, 12 closed-cabs, 19 motorcycles with sidecar and 49 motorcycles, among others, for serious traffic violations. They also issued 289 temporary operator’s permits for minor traffic violations.

The impounded motor vehicles were brought to the DCPO headquarters in Camp Leonor Domingo along San Pedro Street.

Tagum said the operation was also aimed at apprehending motorists who violated the speed limit.

On June 14, 11 passengers died, including the driver, while seven others were injured in a collision between a UV Express van and forward truck at Km. 21, Barangay Mahayag, Bunawan District. The incident prompted the LTFRB to suspend all trips going to the northern part of Mindanao.
