Highway patrol cracks down on colorum vehicles

THE POLICE Regional Office- Highway Patrol group (HPG) XI impounded 15 colorum vehicles in different areas in the region since March 24 following the order of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Sr. Insp. Pedro Campomanes, HPG chief intelligence, said during yesterday’s AFP-PNP press conference held at Royal Mandaya Hotel that they apprehended colorum vehicles since the launching of the task force of the LTFRB Central Office.

It has apprehended two buses, one in Compostela Valley and another in Davao Del Norte; seven vans in Davao del Sur, three vans in Davao del Norte, two vans in Compostela valley, and one taxi.

“They are in violation of outside line, out of line and no certificate of public convenience (CPC),” Camomanes said.

The operation was conducted on March 24, 26, 28, and 29. “All of them were issued Temporary Operators Permit and (the vehicles) were turned over to the Land Transportation office,” he said.

The apprehended buses operate from Davao del Norte going to Agusan, and Tagum City to New Corella. The vans ply the route of Davao del Sur, Davao to North Cotabato and Sarangani Province.

Fines for impounded buses are P1 million; while vans are fined P200,000.

Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, the spokesperson of Police Regional Office (PRO) XI, said they have already started the operation which is part of the mandate of the PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa.

Regional director Chief Supt, Manuel Gaerlan gets his mandate from the verbal instruction of the Land Transportation Office to give power to the HPG to handle franchise related apprehension.

Jun Antonio of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) XI said that they have also apprehended 21 colorum vans and two taxis from March 26 to March 29.

“We have apprehended mostly those parked outside the LTO office especially vans that ply the Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur route,” Antonio said.
