Heavy rain submerges city

THE HEAVY downpour on Thursday night caused  the collapse of the concrete wall of Davao Alliance Bible School Dormitory located at the corner of F.S. Dizon Road, Bacaca and J.P. Laurel Avenue in Barangay 19-B, Poblacion District.

 The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported that it collapsed around 6:30 p.m., damaging two passenger tricycles owned by Stella Lipar and Willard Pernia. The damages totaled to P145,000.

 There was no reported injury.

 The three-hour heavy rain that started around 6 p.m. on Thursday submerged the city’s downtown areas, stranding many commuters. It also flooded a number of barangays in the Poblacion district.

 The city, according to weather forecasts, will continue to experience downpour until early next week.

 The weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-asa) projected that the city will experience rainshowers and thunderstorms up to Sept. 12.

 The expected downpour is attributed on the ridge of high pressure area.

 Yesterday, Pag-asa reported that “Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies apart from isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms. Winds will be light to moderate coming from the south to southeast with slight to moderate seas.”
