Groups ask PRRD to lift Martial Law

Representatives from Muslim, Christians, and Lumads joined the call for the lifting of the Martial Law and the success of the peace talks between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front.

Around 50 people participated in an interfaith activity at Freedom Park along Roxas Avenue to mark the first anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao.
The activity was spearheaded by the Mindanaoans for Civil Liberties (M4CL) and Ecumenical Bishops Forum (EBF).
Pastor Dan Pantoja on behalf of Christians and Bai Ali Indayla for Muslims gave their respective speeches. It was then followed by words of challenge by Bishop Hamuel Tequis.
The activity was conducted to provide a platform not only by “listening to the cries of the people but amplifying these cries so that the ones responsible to address them may be able to hear and see for themselves the reasons behind these people’s lamentations.”
The program ended with candle-lighting ceremony to signify Mindanao’s aspiration for peace and justice. (By Bernard Angga and Rizza Mae Masuelo/Interns)
