Grenade injures 6

SIX INDIVIDUALS sustained minor injuries in a grenade blast around 11:50 p.m. of June 23 in Purok 1, Barangay Bukal, Nabunturan, Compostela Valley.Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz,  spokesperson of the Police Regional Office XI, identified the victims as Jessavee Mae G. Aranaydo, 9; Christian Abellana, 8; Jay-art Javillana Jr., 4; Cecile Nuebe, 41; Catalino Buñol, 40; and Daisy Pandisigue, 18.

The bomb squad recovered the fragments of the grenade, along with most of the shrapnel, and brought them to the Provincial Crime Laboratory in Compostela Valley for forensic examination.

In an interview yesterday, Driz said the blast occurred in an uninhabited portion of the barangay. Police theorized that the grenade was a remnant of a previous clash between the soldiers and the New People’s Army rebels.

“The victims are not interested to file a case because their injuries were only minor,” she said.
