Go Negosyo Center helps MSMEs become mainstream

The opening of Go Negosyo Centers in every municipality has resulted in the mainstreaming of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), said Romeo L. Castanaga, Department of Trade and Industry-Davao del Norte provincial director yesterday.

At the weekly Wednesdays@Habi at Kape – Abreeza, Castanaga said that at present, the region has 40 centers and that 10 more will be added within the next two years.

Because of the help of these centers, said Castanaga, in Davao del Norte, local executives decided that their centers are located in new buildings.

Go Negosyo Centers have employees who assist businesses, particularly MSMEs, so that they can become profitable. “We (DTI) have a MOA (memorandum of agreement) with local government units (in running the centers),” he said, as LGUs and the agency provide personnel who become senior business counselors in helping the MSMEs.

The agency and the LGUs train these counselors to equip them with the knowledge of how to assist these thriving businesses, some of them existing in the past but were not yet registered, allowing them to be mainstreamed. Mainstreaming them is for them to operate legally so they can avail of the assistance from the agency including training activities.

In business name registration, although the personnel of the centers cannot accept payment, Castanaga said they have modified payment system as they have accepted payment through remittances and the online payment systems like GCash. The remittance centers issue the receipts as they have also reached an agreement with DTI for their payment systems.

He said some MSMEs have shown success that a group of women in Carmen, Davao del Norte which was among the representatives of the region in the Manila Fame, an international trade show last month.

During the trade show, the group was able to sell its products, wall decors, to three hotels. The group turns into decors. “Now, they are enhancing their products,” so they can expand their markets,” he added.
