GM Antonio tops 1st Kadayawan FIDE-Rated Open Rapid chess tourney

GRAND MASTER (GM) Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. lived up to his billing as one of the country’s finest when he topped the recent Kadayawan FIDE-Rated Open Rapid chess tournament held last August 12 and 13 at the Eskina of the Lanang Business Park.

Antonio finished with seven points to pocket P20,000 leaving past National Master (NM) Rustom Tolentino and Henry Roger Lopez at second and third place in that order.

Both Tolentino and Lopez had similar 6.5 points but ranked as based on Bucholz points that saw Tolentino having the edge with 33 next to Lopez’s 30. Tolentino went home with P10,000 while Lopez had P5,000. Lopez also wound-up as the best PWD which also gained him an extra P1,000.

Other woodpushers who landed in the top 10 are NM David Elorta, NM John Marvin Miciano, NM Levi Mercado, FM Randy Segarra, NM Alexander Lupian, Gino Angelo Asuncion and Jimzon Trangia.

Special awards were also give to FM Randy Sagarra (Top Employee), Gino Angelo Asuncion (Top Junior), Rhynan Arce (Top Executive), Bhing Joel Gimony (Top Junior-2nd), Japheth Aaron Caresosa (Top Junior-3rd), Honey Grace Buenafe (Top Female), Crista Mae Gallego (Top Female-2nd), Wesley Jovan Magbanua (Top Kiddies), Cyrhea Ruth Atog (Top Female-3rd), Ryan Gabriel Rasay (Top Kiddies-2nd), Julito Canque (Top Senior) and Charlemagne Arias (Top Kiddies-3rd).
