Prosecutor wants interview clips of suspects in businessman’s killing
The public prosecutor in the murder of businessman Ramon “TY” Garcia filed a motion before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 17 to issue a subpoena on the video clips of the suspects’ interview over a local television news program.

Prosecutor Carlos B. Castaños filed the motion on Nov. 7 for the issuance of subpoena to ABS-CBN news reporters and authorized representative to bring the video showing the interview of both accused on June 9.

Daisy Joy Supatan Cachapero, and Ariel John Jamora Liawan, are facing kidnapping and serious illegal detention with homicide, carnapping, and theft charges.

Regional Trial Court Branch 17 Judge Evalyn Arellano-Morales, in her order on Aug. 28, reset the arraignment on Nov. 28 at 8 a.m., after the legal counsel of the family, lawyer Danilo Basa, petitioned the court on Aug. 23 to defer the arraignment for the reinvestigation of the case.

Basa filed a motion for reconsideration on July 25 to revert an earlier ruling from the City Prosecutor’s Office to robbery with homicide.

However, Prosecutor Faizal Padate on his resolution dated Aug. 7, has denied the motion for reconsideration.

Based on police reports, Garcia was last seen with the suspects along Sparrow Street in Ecoland Subdivision past midnight on June 6 by a witness who positively identified the two.

The victim and Cachapero were also seen at a hotel bar in Davao City on the evening of June 5 when the victim offered Cachapero a ride home. They were seen by the CCTV cameras of the hotel.

Reportedly, Liawan sneaked into Garcia’s vehicle from the back along Sparrow Street and threatened him with a knife.

According to the affidavit of Liawan, he panicked when a tricycle passed by, which caused him to stab the victim. The two drove off and tried to dispose of the body.

Garcia’s body was found at Sitio Baluyan in Barangay Bolton in Malalag town, Davao del Sur around 9 a.m. of June 6.
