GET to hold local trackfest on Feb. 2018

IN ITS FAST pace to develop local young student-athletes, the GET (Guillermo E. Torres) Sports eye another sporting spectacle as it host its first-ever track and field competition at the newly-installed University of Mindanao Olympic-standard rubberized track oval located at the Matina campus.

In yesterday’s inaugural rites of the 400-meter track, University of Mindanao President Dr. Guillermo P. Torres Jr. bared that this competition will be an avenue to discover young and potential tracksters in the city.

“UM’s 400-meter rubberized track oval is a realization of a dream as it provides an international sporting venue for local tracksters training and for leisure,” Dr. Torres said adding that next year’s competition will be a kick off with more track and field events to come.

Its initial competition will cover sprinting events for young and aspiring local tracksters from the Elementary and High School level. From then, it is expected to enter other track and field competitions such as hurdles, long jump, pole vault, shot putt and javelin throw.

The track and field competition will be part of Torres and GET Sports on its yearly sporting spectacles which include golf, basketball and legal drag racing.

GET Sports also covers the GET Open which is dubbed as the city’s longest running golf competition to date in which will be reaching its 30th edition in June of 2018.

Aside from golf, the GET Sports along with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Region XI chapter gears up for its Inter-Public High School basketball tournament which tips off its second edition this November 18 at the University of Mindanao Matina gymnasium. From its 10-team roster in its initial staging in 2017, the tournament now draws 12 squads, all provided with free uniform and transportation allowances. Games are played every Saturdays and Sundays.

GET Sports also ties up with the Davao Classic and Sports Car Club Incorporated in which stages the annual Kadayawan Legal 1/8 Mile Drag Racing Championships now on its 12th year held at the Speed City track of the city-renowned Crocodile Park grounds.
