Gang leader killed

AN ALLEGED gang leader who reportedly resisted arrest was killed in a shootout that also wounded a police operative in Barangay Calinan Proper, Calinan District yesterday.

Chief Insp. Michael Uyanguren, the commander of Calinan Police Precinct, identified the suspect as Joshua Manon-og Dorna, alias Sensuwi, a resident of Teacher’s Village in the said barangay.

Uyanguren said his agents served the arrest warrants against Dorna for alarm and scandal (Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code) and illegal possession of firearm (Republic Act 1780), as police received report that the long-wanted Dorna was at his house at that time.

He said they also traced a robbery case against Dorna pending before City Prosecutor Office. He allegedly robbed a local store.

During the serving of the arrest orders implemented by a team of Calinan police officers in the suspect’s house at around 12:50 a.m. yesterday, Dorna allegedly refused to surrender.

He allegedly pulled a .38 caliber revolver, and fired toward the operatives.

 A shootout ensued.

The suspect was reportedly hit in the different parts of his body during the exchange of fire.

The arresting team rushed Dorna to the nearest hospital as the 911 ambulance did not arrive on time.

However, Dorna was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, reportedly due to three gunshot wounds.

An arresting officer was also brought to the hospital for medical treatment due to the graze wound he sustained during the shootout. The identity of the wounded police officer was not released.

Initial report from the Crime Scene Investigation said dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops were recovered from the suspect’s possession, aside from his revolver.
