Frigate docks in wharf today

THE PHILIPPINE Navy will tender an arrival ceremony for BRP Gregorio Del Pilar FF15 in Sasa wharf today.

Speaking in yesterday’s AFP-PNP press conference held at Royal Mandaya hotel, Lt. James Reyes, spokesperson of the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM), said the ceremony is also in connection to the completion of its voyage from Singapore after participating in the Republic of Singapore Navy’s (RSN) 50th anniversary celebration themed as “RSN50: Maritime Nation, Maritime Force” from May 11 – 19.

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will be the guest of honor and Lt. Gen. Rey Leonardo B Guerrero, commander of Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) will preside over the arrival ceremony for the 236-member navy contingent. After the ceremony there will be a tour inside the Del Pilar ship.

The contingent successfully completed its mission in Singapore which include, among others, its participation in the International Maritime Defense Exhibition (IMDEX) Asia 2017.

IMDEX Asia is a premier maritime defense show serving the Asia-Pacific region and beyond comprising four inter-related events: exhibition, conference, VIP delegations’ program and warship display.

As the 11th in its series of exhibitions, IMDEX Asia has established a reputation within the maritime defense industry as a must-attend show.

Reyes also said that the BRP Gregorio del Pilar can be used as a command in control.

“We have also prepared for the arrival today of the BRP Davao del Sur – a transport vessel which has the capacity to in-house three helicopters, 500 personnel with amenities and two ships,” he added.

Meanwhile, on May 31, the navy is also expecting 500 to 600 visitors around 3 p.m. in for the commissioning of the BRP Davao del Sur at Sasa wharf.

President Rodrigo Road Duterte is the guest of honor and speaker.
