FREEZE | Troy Echalas Masion – Promising Young Artist from Davao del Norte

BORN on Jan. 29, 1999, at the Bishop Regan Memorial Hospital in Tagum City, Troy Echalas Masion was sent for adoption in Asuncion, Davao del Norte, at the age of one.

But his foster parents passed away.

Troy’s real parents took their kid back to raise him in Magugpo East, Tagum City.

Troy started learning how to draw back in grade three and earned his peers’ admiration for capturing Son Goku (fictional character and main protagonist of the Dragon Ball manga series) on paper. The joy of drawing remains in this Generation Z artist’s heart as he keeps exploring graphite, color pencil, and ballpoint pen mediums to express his passion.

He dreams to become an architect but he is out of school for now as his elder siblings strive to finish their education. The singer-beatboxer-wannabe is patiently waiting for his turn.

Financial constraints may have prevented his parents to support his love for the arts but Troy learned to sell portraits to keep him going. He spends about three to four hours when working with graphite and about five hours when using color pencils. With some help from his friends at the Facebook group called Guhit Pinas Davao, Troy Masion gets inspired to become a better artist.

Walt Disney’s quote, “If you can dream it, you can do it,” has become Troy’s motto.
