FREEZE| Random scenes in Davao City (Part I)

LET’S take a look at some things that happened in Davao City last week.

WITH the strict imposition of the anti-jaywalking ordinance, pedestrians were compelled to use crosswalks and overpass structures. Going to Gaisano Mall or GMall on foot by commuters coming from the north side of the city now means using the overpass. Surprisingly, there are buskers there who show their talents. I asked this lady’s permission to get photographed and she didn’t mind.

TRAFFIC congestion might soon get eased as Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced one of her legacy projects called the High Priority Bus System (HPBS) that would replace public utility jeepneys or PUJs as the city’s main mode of transportation. The Transportation and Traffic Planning Committee is working with the Asian Development Bank for the HPBS. The Mayor clarified during her State of the City Address on September 12 that PUJs could still serve the feeder routes or those that are not covered by HPBS. The project is scheduled to be implemented by the year 2019.

THE HIGH Priority Bus System (HPBS) in 2019 could also mean a more comfortable seating arrangement for passengers than in PUJs where drivers tend to accommodate too many customers.
