Norway has a total area of 385,252 square kilometers and a population of 5,258,317 (as of January 2017). The Philippines has an area of 343,448 square kilometers and a population of at least 100 million (as of 2015).
Both countries almost have the same size but with a difference of 95 million in population.

How many Filipinos reside in Norway? The Commission on Filipinos Overseas’ Stock Estimate of Overseas Filipinos, as of December 2013, lists a total of 18,088 (13,351 regular and 4,737 temporary). Wikipedia says about 75% of Filipinos there are sea-based and working in the maritime industry. The rest are employed in the health care industry as physicians and nurses, in the information technology sector, in the petroleum industry as engineers, as au pairs or domestic workers, and non-governmental organization and government support staff. Filipinos are granted about 70% of au pairs permits that are issued in Norway.

Based on the Overseas Filipinos’ Cash Remittances report from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Filipinos in Norway officially sent a total of $352.8 million USD in remittances to the Philippines in 2011, after a peak of $372.5 million USD in 2010.

Norway was a member of the International Monitoring Team for the GPH-MILF Peace Process and is the third country facilitator for the GPH-National Democratic Front of the Philippines peace negotiations.

There are about 3,000 Norwegians in the Philippines, either engaged in business, involved in charitable work or residing in the country with their families (Philippines-Norway Relations, Philippine Embassy, Oslo, Norway).

Steen Rolsted is originally from Denmark, now residing in Norway, and works in different parts of the world as a Global Key Account Manager at Parker Hannifin. Parker is a global leader in motion and control technologies – specializing on precision-engineered solutions for aerospace, climate control, electromechanics, and filtration. Steen has earned degrees in mechanical engineering and finance.

As a high school graduation treat for his son, Sondre, the Rolsteds and friends came to Davao City, Philippines, for sightseeing. Unlike his dad, Sondre did not find it difficult to enjoy durian and other Filipino foods.

The Rolsteds visited the Island Garden of Samal, Malagos Garden Resort, Eden Nature Park and Resort, Vikings Luxury Buffet, Dencia’s Restaurant, and other popular places in Davao.
