Freeze | Davao Bakers Club — A Decade of Baking Together

CELEBRATING its 10th anniversary on Mar. 2, 2018, the Davao Bakers Club continues to make a difference in the community. Made with the right proportion of business goals, public service, friendship and the love of baking, the club has remained relevant to the people of Davao City and other places in Mindanao.

The founders of DBCI first met in 2007 as alumni of the Bakery Training Center of the Philippines (BTCP) in Tibungco, Davao City. Billy Baker’s Bong and Marissa Tapucar, Tiny Kitchen’s Vincent and Donna Rodriguez, Ma-an’s Bakeshop’s Ritzy and Joan Reyes, Annipie’s Erwin and Andrea Añonuevo, Joniel’s Cakes’ Jocelyn Baligyan-Cinco, Sugar Munch’s Cindy Nazareno and BTCP representative Ana Deluao agreed to form the club and registered it with the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2008. Inspired to nurture the baking industry in Mindanao, the members also became ready to bring relief to victims of calamities like typhoon Sendong in 2010 and typhoon Pablo in 2012 with assistance from local flour millers, the Filipino-Chinese Bakery Association (FCBAI) and the Philippine Society of Baking (PSB).

DBCI also participates in school-based feeding programs and baking demos in shopping malls to share its blessings and skills with other people during the annual World Bread Day in October.

Led by DBCI President Cecil Abarquez-Dela Cruz, Vice-President Rexcell Dacayon, Secretary Sheena Go, Treasurer Jennie Grace Abasques, Auditor Steven Lim, Trustee Joan Reyes and Trustee Andrea Partoza-Añonuevo, the group – in partnership with Philippine Baking Institute – launches the 1st Philippine Bakers Cup Open Golf Tournament on March 2, 2018 at the scenic Apo Golf and Country Club. The golf tournament is part of the 10th Year Anniversary Celebration of the club. The US Wheat Associates and FCBAI support this historic gathering. Gold sponsors are Philippine Association of Flour Millers (PAFMIL), PEOTRACO Industries Corporation, PUREBAKE Flour and ANGEL Yeast.

The event is a fitting start to bring together members of the baking industry family during the FCBAI Bakery Fair in Davao. Bakery Fair Davao 2018 is FCBAI’s 10th international exhibition on bakery, confectionery, food service equipment and supplies. For the first time, the bakers’ event – usually held in Manila – will find audiences from Davao City and other places in Mindanao at SMX Convention Center from March 1 to 3, 2018.
