Freeze | Aldrine Alcuizar Java, Nurse Artist

27-YEAR OLD ALDRINE Alcuizar Java is a registered nurse who finds happiness in making art using ballpoint pens and watercolor. This guy from Polomolok, South Cotabato, aspires to become a full time artist and a content creator. When asked about his method in art making, Aldrine said:

I usually try to recall my childhood dreams, or if something reminds me about it, I write it down and then I try finding inspiration and references so I can draw the best interpretation of it. I had a recurrent dream when I was younger, it was mostly seeing myself in the mirror with my face leaking out things that varies from time to time it happens. It’s rarely macabre but mostly whimsical. It basically explains my obsession for portraits with a touch of surrealism. Hence, the explanation for my art alias: drinedreams.”

On his art influencer:

“I was greatly inspired by my Korean art teacher way back in high school, who was called “Tibi” (not his real name). He was a missionary who went to my school and chose 5 students as his apprentices. I was one of the lucky 5. We lost contact with him after high school. We tried looking for him through social media but we still have no idea where he is. He’s probably going around the world making arts. He was my hero. “

About his life:

“I’m not one of those kids with exceptional stories about life. I was brought up in a good family with just enough resources to get me through college and become who I am today…. I had my fair share of conflicts and self doubts including my identity and role confusions. Art was my escape, my language, and my remedy to calm the storm inside my soul…. My early adulthood experiences taught me a lot of things. I found myself jumping from one place to another in a continuous hide and seek with my relevance…. I was lost for a while. I stopped making arts because I became busy with trying to build the relevance that I thought I could find in the corporate jobs that I’ve been into…. I went back and recounted the things that matters to me, and that included my passion to create. It was the answer after all, to stop running away from that kid who was not told that happiness could be found through a pen and paper. He found that bliss on his own… I may be on a start up page of trying to build myself as an artist. I may be all alone watching the things that I create but I’m certain enough that it’s where I find true happiness. As a proud gay guy, I swerved my way through finding who I am and took pride with how I came to fully embrace my true self, my identity.”
