Foundation offers scholarship support for deserving students

FULL SCHOLARSHIPS to college courses are up for grabs in the second year of the implementation of the K-12 program for schools.

Eleanor P. Lansang, assistant vice-president for scholarship programs of the SM Foundation, said in an interview that they are willing to take in scholars who are interested in pursuing courses in universities in Davao City next school year.

Lansang said the foundation is willing to fund the full tuition of qualified scholars in schools like the University of Mindanao, University of Immaculate Conception, Ateneo de Davao University and the University of Southeastern Philippines. Qualified students also get P1,000 monthly allowance.

The application will begin in October this year and will run until December. The scholarship program aims to provide scholarships for public school students.

However, since there are students in public schools who have availed of the government’s voucher system to enrol in private schools, those students are also eligible to apply for the program.

“Their grades have to be 88% and above, and their family’s annual income should not exceed P150,000,” Lansang said.

Interested applicants may apply via the SM Foundation website, and fill out application forms.

The foundation is looking forward to supporting scholars from degree programs in accountancy; electrical, mechanical, civil, and electronics and communication engineering; IT courses; and education.

Lansang said that the competition is tight, with around eight to 10 scholars per city qualified for the benefits. Screening starts from January to March.
