FM Literatus settles for bronze

Cebu City – Fide Master Austin Jacob Literatus of Davao City settled for the bronze medal at the close of the 2018 POC-PSC Philippine National Games Rapid Chess championships played at the Robinson’s Galleria, here Friday afternoon.

The 19th seed Toril-based woodpusher wound-up with the 2nd runner-up finish after losing via tiebreaks next to GM Jayson Gonzales of Albay and GM Darwin Laylo of Marikina who took the gold and silver medals, respectively.

All three scored similar seven points at the end of the scheduled seven-round Swiss System format competition.

It was noted the Literatus, who is now a varsity player from National University stunned second-ranked GM Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. on the competition’s second day of action last Monday, May 21.

Literatus’ bronze medal was Davao City’s 25th as of presstime that went along with eight golds and 19 silvers.

Davao City’s medal count was also added by judokas Charise Divine Aseneta who had a golden finish in the women’s -53 kg, Honey Lorraine Daducol, silver medal in the women’s -52kg, Blessie Anne Melecio, silver in the women’s -48kg.
