Firearms, ammos in Calinan farm lot

THE 16th IB under the 1003rd Infantry Brigade discovered firearms and ammunitions in a farm lot located at Sitio Kabagtukan, Barangay Dominga, Calinan District, early morning on Tuesday.

1Lt. Harold Jefferson Mercurio, civil-military operations officer, said they found two Shotgun (1-Armscor and 1-Homemade with five 12 gauge ammo); three cal.38 Revolver with 10 ammunitions; one cal.22 (Homemade) with 22 ammunitions; three Improvised Explosive Devices (IED); one ICOM radio (commercial); and personal belongings.

Mercurio said these were found after a debriefing conducted by the Community Support Program Team of the AFP, with 62 Underground Mass Organization members who surrendered last Sunday, Feb 25.

Lt. Col. Darren Comia, the Commanding Officer of 16th IB, said that the mass surrender of the organizations is a sign that the communist rebels are losing its mass base. He said they are expecting more NPA supporters to surrender because of the success of the collaboration between the local government and the military in the area.

Col. Ernesto Torres, commander, of 1003rd brigade, in a statement said that “the Brigade along with its controlled Battalions will continue the conduct of the CSP in the whole area of operation as well as the conduct of the Focus Military Operation on the ground in order to boost pressure not only to the regular members of the CNT.”
