Favorites prevail in 1st Araw ng Ma-a bikefest

Seasoned and new breed of cyclists dominated the first Araw ng Ma-a and Tropang Trumpo Mountain Bike Challenge held on an out and back course starting at Riverside Camarin, Barangay Ma-a, here on Sunday.

Around 70 cyclists registered and competed per category in the 2,350 meter-lap mountain bike challenge.

Fourteen year-old Mario Buro bested 10 other cyclists to grab first place in the Youth category.

1992 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Dominic Carpio outran other seasoned entries in the Masters 50+ category leaving past Carlofer Salonga, 51: and Hilario “Boy” Ladra, 54 who landed first and second runner-up, respectively.

Other winners saw:
Veterans Category – Glen Yap (champion), Dominador Garcia (1st runner_up), Zaldy “Byding” Pielago (2nd runner-up).

Junior-Senior Category – Melchor Labaya Jr. (champion), Jayrald Daraydo (1st runner-up), Orlando Sabijon (2nd runner-up), Reymond Madera (3rd runner-up), Rodel Villaver (4th runner-up).

Elite Category – Ronnie Urdandeta (champion), Melchor Labaya Jr. (1st runner-up), Nathaniel Carisma (2nd runner-up).

Youth Category – Mario Buro (champion), Francis Jay Guilaran (1st runner-up), Dion Tristan Pinton (2nd runner-up).

The first Araw ng Ma-a and Tropang Trumpo Mountain Bike Challenge was organized by Tropang Trumpo Davao Bikers Association in partnership with RaceLink and Barangay Ma-a Sports Division.
