Families of cops slain in NPA ambush receive aid

THE EMPLOYEES Compensation Commission (ECC) awarded benefits to the the families of the policemen killed in an ambush by the New People’s Army (NPA) in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

The ECC gave out P20,000 to each of the families of the fallen cops PO 1 Rolly Benelayo, PO1 Joe Narvaza, PO1 Saro Mangutara, and PO3 Jayden May Rabor of the Scene of the Crime Operatives in a simple ceremony at SEDA Abreeza.

Ambush survivor PO3 Allen Arnado was also given cash assistance from the agency, ECC executive director Stella Banawis told reporters in an interview Wednesday.

Aside from the compensation package, the Department of Labor and Employment also provided the families with livelihood assistance and cash assistance, depending on the number of beneficiaries.

The assistance comes a month after the police were killed in a crucial ambush, which led President Rodrigo Duterte to order the military and police to “use available assets” and “flatten the hills” in pursuit of the rebel group.

President Duterte lamented the initial reports said the cops were unarmed in the ambush.

The NPA, meanwhile, said the cops fought to their deaths, admitting to staging the ambush earlier this month.
