Evidence presented vs six Chinese on fake cigarettes

THE PIECES of evidence were marked in the Regional Trial Court (RTC) yesterday against the six Chinese nationals accused for the distribution of fake cigarettes in the city.

Yuequn Shi, Chun Qun Shi, Mei Qun Shi, Jian Qun Shi, Tian Pei Shie, and Lian Zai Shi were subjected into a pre-trial conference yesterday before the court room of Judge Retrina Fuentes of RTC Branch 10.

The respondents were represented by their legal counsel, lawyer Erwin Esetares.

On Dec. 1, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of trademark infringement, unfair competition and false designation of origin, false description or representation for the different brands of a cigarette manufacturer in violation of Republic Act 8293 (Intellectual Property Code) filed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) XI.

The respondents were arrested last July 21 by the CIDG XI which resulted to the confiscation of the suspected P18-million worth of counterfeit cigarette products which was stored in their warehouses.

The CIDG served 48 search warrants issued by Fuentes on several warehouses in the city, located in San Pedro Village, Buhangin; Rivera Village, Bajada; F. Bangoy Street; 6th Avenue, Agdao; Sta. Ana Avenue, and Agdao.
