Escandor shines as ADDU nips ACD, 79-64

ATENEO de Davao University leaned on Francis Gabriel Escandor to bail them out against rival Assumption College of Davao, 79-64, Saturday to improve their standings in the ongoing 2015 Gaisano Grand Cup basketball tournament at the Gaisano South Citimall Skygym.

Escandor drilled 17 points noting two triples to lead the Miguel Solitaria-coached Blue Knights past the ACD Warriors on what was noted as a personal vindication for the six-foot-one guard/forward.

The victory was sweet revenge for the Escandor and the rest of the Blue Knights after losing to the Rolly Sancho-led Warriors in the 2015 Davao Association of Catholic Schools (DACS) Hoop Finals last weekend. Escandor wound-up with a game-high 18 points on a losing effort.

Ateneo had a 15-7 lead in the first canto then continued to maintain paced for a 35-22 lead at the half. Escandor had 10 at the half while guard Jethro Taculin had six noting two triples while Mat Martinez had five.

Taculin wound-up with 14 points while Dom Cane added 11 for the Blue Knights while the Warriors were led by Axel Doromal’s 19.

The Blue Knights and the Warriors each have one championship this year with Ateneo winning the season opening Matina Enclaves Inter-School Tournament and Assumption College of Davao taking the 2015 DACS crown. -
