Duterte awards DCPO, cops

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday awarded the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and several other police officers for their accomplishment and gallantry.

Duterte meet with the officers of the Police Regional Office (PRO) XI during the Apostle Patronal fiesta celebration at the regional command in Camp Quintin Merecido in Catitipan, Barangay Communal, Buhangin District.

 The president bestowed the Medalya ng Kagalingan to SPO3 Noel Bastasa Sator, SPO2 Renee Borlio Cañete, SPO1 Allan Tarzo Wines, PO3 Love Jovenir Elicano, PO3 Ronde Jamaca Oblimar and PO2 Julius Mar Cagurol Templa for their acts of gallantry during the running gunbattle in Davao del Norte last June 23.

 In the morning of June 23, NPA rebels attacked the police detachment in Barangay Malitbog, Panabo City, Davao del Norte, resulting to the death of SPO1 Niño Moreno, who was manning the guard tower.

 The police blocking team killed three rebels in Purok 4, Barangay Tubod in nearby Carmen town, also in Davao del Norte around 2:45 p.m. that day.

 The DCPO also received plaque of merit on their special “One Time Big Time” operations last May 19 and June 23 that yielded 361 grams of shabu and 22 grams of dried marijuana, all estimated to worth around P4.36 million.

 The operations resulted to the arrest of 156 drug suspects and the death of five others.

 The Regional Drug Enforcement Unit 11 also received a plaque of merit for the conduct of series of anti-illegal drug operations that resulted in the death and arrest of drug personalities from March 19 to June 27.  The award was received by Supt Arnold Palomo.

 SPO2 Wilfredo Guillema Jr., a police officer injured in one of the anti-drug operations, was also cited for displaying an exceptional dedication to duty and efficiency as one of the team leaders that conducted the series of successful operations.

 The special award was received by his wife Wilhelma as Guillema is still confined at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).

 “My mandate really is to preserve and defend the Filipino nation. Yan ang oath of office ko, ‘yan rin ang oath of office niyo,” Duterte told the police officers in his speech.

 Duterte also announced that by January the salary of policemen will increase.

 “December malaman na  niyo yan (you will know). Next year  January, doblado na ang sweldo ninyo (you’re salary will double),” he said.

 The police and military will also receive additional firearms.

After the awarding ceremony, Duterte also joined in the boodle fight with the police personnel.
