DSWD gives aiding tools for PWDs, kids and elderly

THE DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has turned over to the local government items to be used by children, elderly and persons with disabilities under the bottom-up budget arrangement dated 2016.

Merlinda Paragamac, DSWD regional convergence coordinator, said that the project is valued at P6.9 million under the BUB program.

The items turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office include the provision of assistive devices for older persons and persons with disability worth about P3 milion. Among these were one hip disarticulation prosthesis, 36 knee prosthesis, one ankle foot orthosis, 73 hearing aids, three crutches, 11 walkers and 29 canes.

The devices are seen to benefit 78 elderly people and 76 PWDs.

According to a project paper from the DSWD, this will help the PWDs achieve productivity to help augment their families’ incomes.

About 1.5-million worth of early childhood care and development (ECCD) packages for day care centers from both calendar years 2015 and 2016 were also turned over to the local government. The ECCD packages are seen to benefit at least 200 day care centers or home-based sites.

Around P2.4 million was also allocated for hygiene kits and materials such as toothbrush, toothpaste, soaps, and face towels, among others, for 652 day care centers and home-based ECCD programs where neighborhood play is supervised by professional social workers.
