Driver sued for qualified theft

A DRIVER is facing criminal complaint before the City Prosecution Office after he allegedly stole P300,000 worth of fuel on March 23.

Romel Tarzona Canuza, 34, resident of Purok 6, Magsaysay in Nabunturan, Compostella Valley was sued for qualified theft. He was charged based on the complaint filed by Sylvested Luy, branch manager of Durian Petron Service.

Canuza is now temporarily held at Sasa Police Precinct while waiting for prosecutor Panfilo Lovitos to resolve his case.

According to the police report, Ranie D. Deguito went to Sasa precinct to report the incident to authorities.

Deguito claimed that Canuza went missing after returning the key to the duty guard. When employees of the Durian Petron Service were about to unload the contents of the truck they discovered that some of the compartments were already unsealed.

Upon checking, they learned that 14,000 liters of diesel fuel were already missing.

Deguito added that he tried to locate and contact Canuza but his cellular phone was out of coverage.

Elements of the Sasa Police Precinct acted on a tip and arrested the suspect in Nabunturan around 5 p.m. on Mar. 24. Recovered from his possession was P74,000, which believed to be the proceeds of the looted diesel fuel.

Investigation of the Sasa police revealed that the stolen diesel fuel was sold by suspects to the Petron gas station in Bunawan.
