DOLE takes case of victims’ salary

THE DEPARTMENT of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will take care of the transitional salaries of around 2,900 workers affected by the NCCC Mall, Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III said.

Bello made the announcement after a meeting with various stakeholders, including representatives of NCCC Mall and SSI.

Aside from the salaries, the DOLE will be providing P30,000 in burial assistance, as well as funding for groceries amounting to P5,000.

“It was suggested to me that the groceries should be P500, but I said that’s an insult to the victims,” Bello said.

Local representatives of the agency are now reaching out to the families of those affected by the fire.

On Wednesday, Mayor Sara Duterte said the city government, NCCC mall management, and SSI will provide financial assistance to the victims.

The city government will also foot the bill from the transport of the body, including expenses for the wake and burial or cremation.

The SSI will provide livelihood assistance to the relatives of the deceased.

NCCC, for its part, will create a scholarship fund for the children of the deceased.

Bello said NCCC will absorb all employees displaced by the fire.
