Digos jail guard nabbed for drugs

A JAIL guard landed in jail after he was arrested for illegal drugs in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

Jail Officer 2 Manuel Lumactud de Guzman Jr., 32, was arrested by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Digos City Police Station during the operation last Sept. 1.

The PDEA said de Guzman is a high value target since he is a law enforcer being a member of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology assigned in Digos City.

The PDEA and the city police conducted the operation after receiving reports that a jail officer was selling shabu.

During the buy-bust operation along Quirino Street, Barangay Zone II in Digos, authorities seized a sachet containing suspected shabu. The P500-marked money was also confiscated.

 Meanwhile, the Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office recently initiated Oplan Citadel that resulted to the death of one resident in Barangay Madaum, Tagum City and the apprehension of eight others for allegedly involving in drug operations.

On Aug. 31, the operation, aimed to suppress criminality and terrorism, resulted to the killing of Mario Rasay Lumanta, 40, a suspected drug pusher who allegedly fired the police who was about to serve a search warrant.

The authorities, meanwhile, nabbed Abdul Rasay Lumanta, Madjer Batangga, Farida Morena Batangga, Ronie Diabo, Benjie Caure, Taboy Malanog, Christoper Charles Alinsub and Moner Jumawan.

The police were able to seize two .38 caliber, one fragmentation grenade, two M16 fired cartridges, one .38 caliber fired cartridges, eight .38 caliber live ammunitions, money amounting to P37,495 and seven motorcycles.

They also confiscated eight heat-sealed sachets, eight elongated heat sealed cellophane and 21 sachets, which allegedly contained shabu.

“The successful conduct of Oplan Citadel is the result of thorough intelligence build-up and careful planning by the participating units,” said Police Senior Supt. Marcial Mariano P. Magistrado, provincial director of Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office.

Magistrado said the arrest of suspected drug personalities, confiscation of firearms and drug paraphernalia “clearly manifest a major success in the center of illegal drugs infested area in Tagum City that will reduce the illegal drug and criminal activities perpetrated by these suspected criminals in the community.”
