DFA to set up office in Tagum

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will set up its consular office at the Gaisano Mall in Tagum City.

Following the signing of agreement between DFA and Gaisano Group last month, the agency will be free of rental fee to occupy a space at Gaisano Mall for the consular office in Tagum City, the second in Davao Region.

The agency’s first consular office is in Davao City, at the third floor of SM City Davao in Ecoland.

DFA Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said in a statement that they thanked the Gaisano Group for expanding their partnership with the agency. The agency also forged a partnership agreement with SM Prime Holdings for its new consular offices.

The agency would locate at SM City Dasmariñas, Cavite; SM City San Pablo, Laguna and SM Cherry Foodarama Antipolo, Rizal.

“We expect to serve the public better and quicker with the opening of these additional consular offices that would be hosted by our private sector partners at no cost to the government,” Cayetano said.

DFA also planned to set up a consular office in Misamis Occidental.

Cayetano said their new consular offices would bigger compared to their existing mall-based offices and would have facilities to promote an efficient flow for speedy processing of passport application.

The establishment of additional consular offices was pursuant on Executive Order 45 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in October last year, which provided for the reorganization of the field offices of consular affairs of DFA. (KMF)
