DCPO investigates Brgy. 23-C incident

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) already launched an investigation on the shooting incident in Barangay 23-C last Saturday after receiving reports that the gunman was an outsider.

Supporters of Barangay Captain Alimodin Usman and late barangay captain Amilbangsa Manding were reportedly wounded in the said incident.
Davao City Police Office director Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum said they are still interviewing witnesses for a case buildup after the melee on Saturday night, the last day of the campaign for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
“Initial information that we received was that the suspect was not a member of both contending parties under Barangay Captain Manding and Usman, and both contending parties are denying that it came from their group,” he said.
“What happened was that there was a shouting match and eventually gunfire,” he said, adding that the members of both parties are not cooperating right now but their investigation remains open.
The investigation is being conducted by the DCPO’s Investigation and Detection Management Branch led by Chief Insp. Oliver Navales. “So we are supervising the investigation to know what really happened,” Tagum added.
Meanwhile, he said they are currently providing support to the Sta. Ana Police Precinct in securing the barangay for the possible rido or revenge killing over what happened.
“We have Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team so we are still securing the area,” he added.
Tagum said Barangay 23-C used to be classified as category 1 in the election watchlist. However, it was elevated to category 3 after what happened. He also said mostly barangays under category 2 are located in hinterlands such as in Paquibato, Marilog, Buhangin, Calinan, and Baguio district.
