THE DAVAO City Police Office has deployed 8,000 PNP personnel, soldiers, volunteer police auxiliary and other security forces to secure the Davao Region Athletic Association sports event from Feb. 18 to 23, 2018, held in the city.

Speaking in yesterday’s AFP-PNP press conference held at Royal Mandaya hotel Sr. Insp. Maria Teresita Gaspan, DCPO spokesperson, said the police is on full alert status and that all billeting areas and event places are secured.

Jenelito Atillo, the spokesperson of the Department of Education (DepEd) XI, said that since July last year, they have been preparing for the DavRAA hosted by the city government and other concerned agencies and private sectors.

“We put premium in the lessons that we learned from the past and we would like to ensure that everyone is safe,” Atillo said.

“We will also ensure that possible complaints of the delegates will be acted upon immediately and that we will provide appropriate action or solution,” he added.

During the opening, he said they are expecting some VIPs to attend like Senator Manny Pacquiao, Education Secretary Leonor Briones and local chief executives from the 11 DepEd divisions.

He said the DepEd has invited President Rodrigo Duterte to grace the opening of the sports event in the region but there was no confirmation from Malacanang yet.

The parade will start at 2 p.m. on Feb. 18, followed by the opening ceremony.

“We also thank the private sector (malls, others) for lending (space) in their establishments as venue for some of the games,” Atillo said.

He said they have utilized 15 schools to house the delegates coming from the provinces.

He said some of the delegations from Davao Occidental had arrived yesterday to be followed by Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, and Island garden City of Samal, and the cities of Mati, Panabo and Tagum.

They are expecting the delegates from Davao del Sur to arrive today.
