DCHHS Filipino-Chinese Community celebrates Lunar Chinese New Year

SINCE the start of February, the Filipino-Chinese community of Davao has prepared for the Lunar Chinese New Year on Feb. 16. As an annual tradition, the oldest Chinese School in the city- the Davao Chong Hua High School (formerly known as Davao Central High School) held its Lunar Chinese Celebration last Feb. 15, Thursday, at its school grounds.

To show how beautiful and preserved the Chinese culture is, different presentations of Chinese culture and traditions were showcased. There were numerous presentations of Chinese traditional dances including the Drum dance, the Lantern dance and the famous Dragon and Lion dances. There were also presentations of Chinese chorale and poem reading.

Aside from these performances, an exhibit of the Chinese artworks of students was mounted. There were Chinese paintings, masks, lanterns, knots and fans. There was also a column showing the predictions regarding the different Chinese Zodiac Signs.
