Davao lass wins The Voice Teens

DAVAOENA singing champ Jona Marie Soquite expressed her thanks yesterday to supporters as she performed on ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime.

On Sunday night, the 13-year-old world singing champ from Lubogan, Toril became the first ever winner on ABS-CBN’s The Voice Teens.

Jona took home a house and lot, P1 million, a recording and management contract and a business package, among others.

She bested three other rivals as she got 44.78 percent of votes. Contenders Isabela Vinzon, Mica Becerro and Jeremy Glinoga respectively got 22.42, 17.79 and 15.01 percent.

Jona, who is under Sarah Geronimo’s team, admitted she did not expect to win “The Voice” because there were people who doubted her early in the competition.

She said winning the competition is a blessing, and that she’s really after the house.

In 2005, she became a champion, besting singers from other countries, in the prestigious World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA), the Olympics-style competitions held in Hollywood, California, the entertainment capital of the world.
