Davao Artists | The opportune and decisive moment

Felcris Art Centrale has become one of the busiest art galleries in town, with never a lull in painting exhibits, week after week.

Last Sunday, June 24, the relatively new art group simply called Davao Artists opened its exhibit with the title Kairos, a Greek word which means “a time when conditions are right for the accomplishment of a crucial action: the opportune and decisive moment.”

Perry Crusit-Liquigan, defines themselves as “a group of people who share an interest in art.” Even if there is no formal instruction (although Perry studied at the Ford Academy of the Arts) its members learn from each other through structured criticism and appraisal. Perry said the “standard of work ranges from complete novices to accomplished artists.”

The mission of Davao Artists is altruistic – to conduct a series of free art workshops for kids and adults and to connect local artists and professionals of high skills levels with others through art classes and community outreach.

Kairos, as theme of the exhibit means this is the “opportune moment, the special season, and the right time.” Perry said “it’s the time when God acts, and we respond.”

At the launching, Perry noted that the art scene of the city was never this vibrant with spaces for young artists to show their talent to the world. It is in this space in time that artists should endeavor to create and paint.

So for the young artists, what they have now is kairos,  the opportune moment and the right time.

The group Davao Artists mounted the exhibit “Kairos” now ongoing at Felcris Centrale.
